BT Switch Off 2027

UPDATE - Switch Off Delayed Until 2027! - See our blog for more details...

Are You Ready for the Big Switch Off?!

In 2015, BT Openreach announced that their Public Switch Telephone Network (PSTN) is reaching the end of its life and will be retired from service (switched off) at the end of December 2025.  This will coincide with the, much anticipated switch off of the ISDN (ISDN2 and ISDN30) network, also being retired at the same time.

Because of this, businesses are being forced to look for an alternative. But future proofing your business doesn't need to be complicated, because at One Cloud, we can do it all for you, so why not give us a call and let us take the stress out of the changeover.

Affected Services Replacement Product
All analogue (PSTN) Single and Multi-Lines. All ISDN Lines (ISDN 2 and ISDN 30) SIP Trunks and Hosted/Cloud Telephony, *FTTP/SOGEA Symmetrical Low Bandwidth
ADSL/ADSL2+, FTTC, FTTC G-Fast Broadband SOTAP**, SOGEA, SOGFAST, FTTP

*Low bandwidth service: Ideal for low data consumption users or voice only customers (used with a VoIP/Hosted IP Product) that do not require higher bandwidth solutions - Ideal as direct replacement for PSTN only customers.

** SOTAP is an all copper solution, available in areas where no fibre products are present (FTTP/SOGFAST/SOGEA). It will be offered as a temporary transition solution until fibre is available in the area (Temporary ADSL2+ Replacement).

“Traditional Telephony” has always used a mix of copper and fibre telephone lines, and as broadband services have increased in reliability and quality, over the past 10 years or so the PSTN has evolved to support this change.  But it is an ageing network, as old as 140 years in places!  So, naturally it has reached a point where the infrastructure is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain and other, more modern services are quickly taking over, meaning a lot of the features offered on the PSTN are becoming redundant.

In the run up to this big switch-off, more and more businesses are switching over to VoIP Services, such as our hosted/cloud PBX solutions or SIP Trunking. With these services offering more functionality, greater working flexibility, greater reliability, cheaper installation and lower running costs, we are finding that the majority of our customers are already switching to enjoy these benefits.

At One Cloud, we are here to help and advise our customers, new and old so why wait? Switching now will, not only save you money, but our Cloud/Hosted solutions allow staff to work remotely, or in the office, with the same (if not greater) functionality and reliability than ever before. All our services can fully integrate with Mobile technology as well, so you need never miss a call again.

Switching does not need to be complicated either, our services can usually be set up and deployed within 24 hours and we’re here to guide you through the whole process. So why not give us a call and start to future proof your business, today.

What about services like Alarm Lines, Fax and PDQ Machines?

There are many applications which currently rely on the PSTN network, such as Alarm Lines, Payment Terminals (PDQ Machines), Health-Monitoring Equipment and Emergency Lift Lines. Most can already be changed to an internet, or SIM/LTE based service, but many older telephone systems, fax machines, PDQ Machines and alarm lines, that do not have SIM card capability will no longer work after the 2025 deadline.

However, with our help, most Fax Machines and many older phone systems can now utilise our "One Cloud" Hosted Voice platform with the use of a simple analogue adaptor.

We are here to help, so call us today, speak to our friendly team and we can chat through your options.
